Ever since I started sharing my experience with trichotillomania online I have wanted to meet others just like me! I knew how freeing it felt to finally let go of all that shame and by creating Trich Talks: The Podcast, I felt like I had the platform to help others do it too. What started as an Instagram Live series in 2021 has turned into a full-fledged podcast! I even have a sponsor and run ads! Shoutout HabitAware!
With 181 episodes and counting, I have heard A LOT of incredible things and I am so grateful for my guests who bare it all! Although I can't possibly pick a favorite episode, I can share some of the most powerful quotes from guests (so far).
We need to get into the sense of like self-love, self-acceptance, like honoring the small acheivements, honoring that it is a part of you, and that's okay. -Dorin Azerad, Season 1 Episode 1
Enough said!
I would hate to live in the dark, if you will. I would hate to live not knowing that there's a whole community, there's thousands of us living with the same condition. -Anna Gantt, Season 1 Episode 2
There is nothing in my eyes more important than finding your community! Whether it's body-focused repetitive behaviors or something entirely different—being able to talk to people just like you and learn from them is honestly life changing. I learned about black eyelash glue from Anna in this episode!
What is my signal telling me that I need right now? And as you start using the bracelet and tracking the data, you'll start to see those patterns emerge: it mostly happens at these certain scenarios or timings. And you can use that process to identify the right strategies for you. -Aneela Idnani, Season 2 Episode 5
Awareness is such a powerful tool, if not the most powerful. Aneela's creation of the Keen/Keen2/KeenLite is life changing.
Not everything is going to work for everyone at the end of the day. But I think it doesn't hurt to try and then you never know what might help. -Shannon Crosslands, Season 2 Episode 9
A great reminder that not every tool out there for BFRBs is going to work for you. Continue trying new things!
I found that rather than using skincare as a way to try and undo the damage that I caused, I now kind of see it as a relevant act of self-care to make myself feel better and to say, "Well done today." -Kim Hastings, Season 3 Episode 21
Learning to treat the area where you pull or pick with kindness has tremendous benefits. We're so used to doing things to cover up what we've done that we rarely take the time to turn that idea around and give ourselves that extra love!
Compassion is also the antidote to shame. It sounds like a wishy-washy soft thing. Actually, compassion is quite hard and it really takes practice, and it takes training to be able to do it. -Dr. Clare Mackay Season 3 Episode 26
This is one time where I'll happily use the phrase: Practice makes perfect!
You do not need to have all of your hair to be a hot girl. -Maddy Sosa, Season 4 Episode 17
FACTS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Because really, really Trichster is a film about self-acceptance and accepting yourself for who you are, which I think is a universal message. -Jillian Corsie, Season 4 Episode 26
Trichster was many people's first glance into what it is really like living with trichotillomania. And for those in the community, it was their first time seeing themselves represented.
For me, it took me almost 20 years to really say how I feel about it, my experiences, but definitely go at your own pace. You'll know when the right time is for you, whether it's today or five years from now, 10 years from now, everyone's journey is different. -Holly Johnson, Season 5 Episode 9
It took me 17 years and it may take the next person only two. Either way, no matter how long it takes us, we're here. We are sharing our experiences with others. That is a huge accomplishment.
This is normal for someone who has this condition and you are doing your best. -Faith Uyboco, Season 5 Episode 20
Many people, myself included, have gone through intense pulling times and thought that meant we were doing a bad job—we weren't trying hard enough. Part of having trichotillomania is having times where you do pull out your hair and that's okay.
There are so many more quotes I could add but I will stop here. You can listen to all of these episodes and more on any podcast streaming service.
